Palmetto Relay COVID-19 - Update

We have been communicating with team captains regularly throughout this process and we are posting here the main points of these communications. Over the weekend, we made our plan and e-mailed it out on Sunday (This was before the CDC made their 8-week 50 person maximum at a gathering recommendation. However, we are still moving forward optimistically with this plan).

Here is what we are planning for the Palmetto Relay 2020:

  • The race is tentatively rescheduled for April 24-25. Most events that are currently shut down (sports leagues, schools, etc.) have a 30 day or early to mid-April optimistic timeline.

  • Teams can cancel current travel plans for the March 27-28 date and explore plans for the April 24-25 date.

  • We will be working with all our partners for the race on Monday and Tuesday to try to confirm that moving to this date works for all critical points of the race (start, finish, police, etc.)

  • We will communicate to teams by mid-week to hopefully confirm that we are able to hold the race on April 24-25.

  • We realize there is still a chance this date will not be far enough into the future for COVID-19 to no longer be a threat.

  • In the event we can’t run the race on this date – due to either the inability to reschedule the race because of resources, or the virus is still too intrusive to have a large scale event – we will be providing each team an equivalent team entry into either of our Fall Races (Colonial Relay – 9/18-19 or Tuna Relay – 10/24-25) or next year’s Palmetto Relay which should be in March 2021.
