Tuna Relay and Colonial Relay COVID-19 Update

After communicating with exchange zones, volunteers, counties and other groups involved in the Tuna and Colonial Relays, we have made the difficult decision to cancel these events for 2020 due to COVID-19 and the related concerns.  Over the past few weeks, we have had several teams drop out of the races due to these concerns, but we have also heard from teams that are training and planning to run if we had the event.  It was definitely a mixed response, which made the decision that much harder.  We are not happy with this result, but we feel this is the best decision for the safety of all involved.

As a race, we run through numerous counties and towns/municipalities in each state along the route.  We also stop at 35 locations along with the start and finish for each race and need 70+ volunteers (many of whom are seniors) to help along the way.  With all these moving parts and dependence and interaction with the communities we run through, it is the most prudent approach after talking with those involved and hearing their concerns about the race coming through their community.

We have sent an e-mail to team captains with further instructions on proceeding with refunds and race transfers.  If you have registered for either the Colonial or Tuna Relay this Fall, please check with your team captain for more details.

We fully plan to be back and better than ever in 2021 with the Malak Series.  We appreciate everybody’s support and understanding with this decision and look forward to running with you in the future.

Stay safe and keep running!
